The Monday Moment from Weld Central Middle School
8-31 Good morning! We hope that you had a wonderful weekend!
Safety is a high priority for our school district. On Friday, Weld Central Middle School conducted the first lockdown drill for the school year. Very few staff members (and no students) are aware of these drills as we want the drill to be as authentic as possible. The drill went well and we were able to identify some opportunities for improvement. Our building Crisis/Safety team will be meeting tomorrow for our monthly meeting and will begin to address those areas of concern. We will have at least one more lockdown drill during this school year.
Our fall athletics is well underway. This week, we have a home 7th grade volleyball match today (Monday) and a home 8th grade volleyball match on Wednesday. [8th grade is away on Monday and 7th grade is away on Wednesday.] Boys’ soccer is away today (Monday) and at home on Wednesday. The boys’ football team will host the season opener on Thursday, September 3. All games start at 4 PM. For more information about athletics, please visit https://sites.google.com/site/athleticswcms/
We are currently forming our School Accountability Team for this school year. Meetings will be held at 4 PM on the first Tuesday of the month. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact our principal, Jamie Jeffery, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are seeing a few dress code violations while we continue to have warm weather and would appreciate your help in making sure students are dressed appropriately. The dress code is identified in our student handbook which is available on our website and is also printed in the front of our student planners. Thank you for your assistance.
If your child did not have their picture taken in August, Lifetouch will be here again on Friday, September 11 to take student pictures. Forms will be sent home this Friday, September 4.
There is no school on Monday, September 7, 2015 in observance of Labor Day.
We are so excited to announce that starting next school year we will be implementing The Boomerang Project’s transition program WEB (Where Everybody Belongs). WEB is a student-led transition program that creates a welcoming, nurturing environment where sixth graders feel supported and cared for and it creates an environment of belonging. This program helps to reduce incoming sixth grade fears such as bullying and failure, and replaces it with support and connections with peers and school staff. For more information visit the counseling page and/or www.boomerangproject.com
